Forbes Asia's Fabulous 50 List of the year 2015 released Forbes Asia’s Fabulous 50 List of the year 2015 released 
Forbes released Asia’s Fabulous 50 list for 2015, an annual honour roll of Asia Pacific’s best companies. 25 Indian companies featured in the list. India has contributed the second-highest number of companies, behind China.
Indian Companies in the list are: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCL Technologies, Aurobindo Pharma, Lupin, Motherson Sumi Systems, Sun Pharma Industries, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra and Titan.

 

NASA found Earth-like planet Kepler 452b NASA found Earth-like planet Kepler 452b 
NASA’s Kepler spacecraft has spotted the first nearly Earth-size planet in the habitable zone of a star similar to earth.
Quick Facts about Kepler 452b:
• It’s about 60% larger than our own planet and “almost certainly has an atmosphere”
• Kepler-452b, is about 1,400 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus.
• It’s about 60% bigger than Earth and is located in its star’s habitable zone — the region where life-sustaining liquid water is possible on the surface of a planet.
• It takes 385 days for the planet to orbit its star, very similar to Earth’s 365-day year.

First-ever UN Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela Prize awarded to Helena Ndume and Jorge SampaioThe United Nations General Assembly awarded the first-ever UN Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela Prize to Helena Ndume and Jorge Sampaio recognizing the South African leader’s contributions to democracy, justice and reconciliation and his dedication to the service of humanity.
The Prize was designed to honour and recognize the “outstanding achievements” of two distinguished individuals, one female and one male, who have dedicated their lives to the service to humanity, particularly in the promotion of reconciliation, social cohesion and community development.
Dr. Ndume of Namibia is an ophthalmologist whose life’s work has been the treatment of blindness and eye-related illnesses, both in Namibia and throughout the developing world.
Mr. Sampaio of Portugal became a leader in the struggle for the restoration of democracy in Portugal, and served as Deputy Minister for External Co-operation; as Mayor of Lisbon from 1989 to 1995; and, from 1996 to 2006, as President of the country.
The Prize was also established to pay homage to Nelson Mandela’s extraordinary life and legacy of reconciliation, political transition and social transformation.

Seven Indian companies have made it to the Fortune 500 list for 2015. Walmart, the world’s largest retailer tops the list.
China has close to 100 companies in the list, including three — Sinopec Group, China National Petroleum, State Grid — in the top 10. No Indian company features in the top 100, in a list that’s dominated by American, European and Chinese firms.
