Institute of Banking Personal Selection (IBPS) has announced notification for the recruitment of Probationary Officers (POs) for the year 2017-18. Eligible candidates can apply online by 24 August, 2017.

Following SBI footprints, IBPS has also modified its selection procedure for the recruitment. Now the selection will be based in three phases consisting of Online Preliminary and Main Exam and Interview.

Preliminary Examination will act as a screening test and is going to be very crucial for IBPS PO recruitment this year.

Let’s have a look at Preliminary and Main Exam pattern:

exam pattern

Phase-I: Exam Pattern for IBPS PO Preliminary Exam:

  • Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing passing marks to be decided by the Bank. Adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank will be short listed for the Main Examination.

Phase – II: Main Examination: Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks having 200 questions. The test will be held online.

  • Objective Test: The Objective Test of 2 hour duration consists of 5 Sections as follows:
  1. Reasoning
  2. English Language
  3. Quantitative Aptitude
  4. General Awareness
  5. Computer Knowledge

The candidates are required to qualify in each of the Tests by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

Phase – III: (Interview) Candidates who have been shortlisted in the main examination for CWE PO/MT will subsequently be called for an Interview to be conducted by the Participating Organisations and coordinated by the Nodal Bank in each State/ UT with the help of IBPS.

The total marks allotted for Interview are 100. The minimum qualifying marks in interview will not be less than 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates). The weightage (ratio) of CWE (Main exam) and interview will be 80:20 respectively. The combined final score of candidates shall be arrived at on the basis of scores obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination of CWE PO/MT and Interview.

Final Allotment:  A candidate should qualify both in the CWE and interview and be sufficiently high in the merit to be shortlisted for subsequent provisional allotment process, details of which will be made available subsequently on IBPS website.

Only Quant, Reasoning and English in IBPS PO Prelims : Just like SBI PO, IBPS will also have questions from Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and English in Preliminary Exam.

Candidates should note that there is passing marks for each of the section. It is advisable that in order to qualify in each section, candidates should first attempt 50 % of the questions. So first attempt 15 Questions from English, 18 Questions each from Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning.

Time Management: Time Management would be very crucial in IBPS PO Preliminary Exam as only 60 Minutes are given to solve 100 Questions. So the ideal time break up for each section is 20 Minutes.

Generally there are two types of strategy for exams. One is first attempting questions to clear the cut off. The other one is attempting the whole paper in one go while dividing time for each section. Since the overall time is just 1 hour, so it is advisable to attempt the paper in one go giving not more than 20 minutes to each section. Candidates should try to complete everything related to each section within 20 minutes only.
