State Bank of India (SBI) conducts Common Written Examination for recruitment of Probationary Officers in its own branch and the branches of its Associate Banks. The examinations are conducted through online format at different centers across the country.
The written Exam consists of two parts-Objective type test and a Descriptive Test. The Objective type questions paper includes 4 Sections comprising Reasoning, Data Interpretation & Analysis, English Language, General Awareness, Marketing & Computers. The total of 200 multiple choice questions are asked. Each section will have 50 questions with negative marking of .25 marks for each wrong answer.

Tips for Reasoning :
In SBI PO, Reasoning of High Level is asked. Questions from different topics are asked. So, one should first understand the nature of questions asked. For this going through the previous year papers will help. Practice is of course one of the important aspects in mastering Reasoning section. In SBI PO Exam, the questions from this section are from both Verbal and Non Verbal section. Verbal Reasoning topics include- Analogy, Input-Output, Classification, Syllogism, Inferences etc. From non verbal section, questions are from Classification of figures, Figure series etc..
Tips for Data Interpretation & Data Analysis:
In SBI PO exam, there is a section named Data Interpretation & Data Analysis. Unlike Quantitative Aptitude section, which is a part of IBPS PO and other Officers level, DI & DS section has most of the questions from Data Interpretation. To crack this section, one should be comfortable with speedy calculation and approximation techniques. Basic concept of Percentages, Ratios, Averages is required to solve questions on DI. Questions are from the topics- Table Charts, Bar Graph, Pie Chart, Radar Graph, Mixed Graph. Apart from DI, few questions are from Permutations & Combinations, Probability, Percentages, Profit & Loss etc. But their numbers are not more than 10 % of the section.
Tips for English Language:
English Language section is one of the important sections in SBI PO Exam. To score well in this section, one has to brush up grammatical concepts and develop vocabulary power. Reading Comprehension is another essential part of English Language section.
This section includes questions from Close Test, Antonyms and Synonyms, Spotting the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Reading Comprehension etc.
General Awareness, Marketing & Computers:
In SBI PO Exam, there is a separate section named General Awareness, Marketing & Computers. This section can be scoring provided each segment are prepared independently.
General Awareness: Preparation of this section is relatively easy but must be done with proper strategy. One has to keep an eye on the latest happenings of the banking industry and economy. The topics to be covered are Banking System of India, Indian Economy, Money Market, Sport, Latest Awards and Honours, Personalities in News etc.
Marketing: Questions are asked from Marketing basics. Go through the previous year papers to know the type of questions asked from marketing.
Computer Knowledge: Nowadays everyone is aware of Computers. To score well in Computer Knowledge Section, one has to go through Important Computer Terminology, recent development in Computer field, Networking, Internet etc.
