Narsingh Pancham Yadav booked berth at Olympics
Narsingh Pancham Yadav grabbed bronze in the men’s 74kg freestyle category to open India’s account at the world Wrestling Championships. Yadav secured an Olympic quota place for next year’s Rio Olympic. In the bronze medal match he defeated Zelimkhan Khadjiev.
Yadav became the first Indian wrestler to win medal at the prestigious tournament as well as earned an Olympic berth for the Rio Games. But Narsingh went down to Unurbat Purevjav of Mongolia in his semifinal bout. As per the rule Olympic berth is awarded to the country concerned and not to the wrestler who might have clinched it. It will now be interesting to see who between the veteran Sushil or 26-year-old Narsingh, who will represent India in the mega event.
